Membership of POPS
Our Parents of Past Students have played a very important role in the history of our School and the College values their continued friendship. Membership of the group is automatic upon a son or daughter graduating from the school, regardless of any other siblings that may still be attending the College.
By joining our POPS Facebook group, we can keep you informed of upcoming events, such as School Musicals, P & F Carnivals, Showcase Days, the various Music Department evenings, Carols in the Courtyard and many other events on the yearly calendar.
We can inform you of upcoming tours of the College, so you stay in-touch with changes on campus. We plan to reintroduce our Christmas in July Trivia Nights in conjunction with the OC Alumni. Moreover, we want to offer opportunities for you to reunite with old friends.
The History of POPS
Schools would not exist if it were not for parents. Over the years POPS have played a pivotal role in the growth and development of our school. The pioneering spirit of our very first group of parents, (pre-1988) who believed in ‘a dream to build a unique school in the Redlands’ was responsible for the birth of our Ormiston College Community. Their eager determination, ambitious ideas, friendship and commitment assisted in the very foundation of Ormiston College.
Prior to the official opening of the school, parents would gather at weekends, armed with their own rakes and garden implements to lay turf in front of the newly completed buildings of the Junior School. They held Trivia Nights in the Cleveland RSL Hall to raise money for many basic necessities.
Those same POPS became the trailblazers once the school officially opened. They continued to volunteer, fundraise, friend-raise and spread the good name of Ormiston College. They presented Arts and Grafts Exhibitions, Carnivals and annual themed Trivia Nights to raise essential funds, plus social monthly dinner meetings at different venues throughout the Redlands area. Their support, along with growing recognition of our school, increased student numbers allowing Ormiston College to extend from Junior School into the Senior School. A precedence was certainly set by those early POPS and has continued to flourish ever since.
