On Friday, 15 November, students from Prep through to Year 12, along with teaching staff and Year 12 parents, gathered together in the Somerset Sports Centre to witness an annual Ormiston College event, the Headmaster’s Whole School Assembly in honour of the graduating Class of 2019.

College Captains, Alexandra Neate and May Payne, led the College prayer. The Headmaster, Brett Webster, commented on the significance of the whole school sharing graduation and honouring our Year 12 students, making it a day of celebration.

Deputy Head of College, Lee Catterall, then called upon 21 Medallion recipients; students who had completed their entire schooling at Ormiston College, since the first day of Year 1 in 2008. For some of these students their learning journey at commenced in Prep 2007.

Year 12 student, Charlotte Scanlan, proudly carried out the annual tradition of presenting a gift to the College on behalf of the Class of 2019. The donation was a cheque to the value of $3,400. The annual gift presentation serves as a valuable opportunity for graduating students to give back to their College.

Two members of the Alumni, Courtney Allan (Class of 2004) and Sabrina Schultz (Class of 2014) welcomed the graduating Year 12 students as future members of the OC Alumni.

The important transferring of the Mantle of Leadership from Seniors of 2019 to those of 2020 to place, along with the introduction of next year’s College Captains and Prefects.

The Guard of Honour, formed by students of Year 6 and Year 11, lined the corridor of the Somerset Sports Centre, exiting the building through the Old Collegian Entrance. Graduating medallion students left the building accompanied by students from Prep, symbolic of the first and last year levels represented at the College.

Graduation and Valedictory Ceremony

The Year 12 students were reunited with parents and families and took seats in the auditorium of the Performing Arts Theatre. The Headmaster made his welcome address, stating that this was “One of life’s most memorable milestones, and I know we are all feeling very proud and privileged to be sharing it with the graduating class of 2019.”

Several students took the stage to share many unforgettable experiences. Others gave thanks to parents, teachers, mentors, coaches and friends. Responses from each of those groups were received.

The College Captains delivered their Valedictory address, followed by comments from the Headmaster. The Head of Secondary School, Paul Hornibrook, commenced the ceremony of presenting the Year 12 students with their Graduation Certificates. At this time, the graduates selected a rose which they took back to their family in acknowledgement of the support throughout their school years.

The cutting of the Graduation Cake was made prior to a multimedia presentation of the journey from Prep to Year 12, as experienced by out Year 12 graduates, who are now members of the OC Alumni.
