Farewell Kanagawa Gakuen Students

Early on Sunday morning we farewelled twenty students and two teachers from our sister school in Japan, Kanagawa Gakuen. Although many tears were shed as the visitors boarded the bus, everyone has many happy memories of the visit.

During their week-long stay, the Kanagawa Gakuen students studied English, attended classes with their host siblings to experience life in an Australian classroom, and painted boomerangs under the tutelage of Mrs de Lange (Art Coordinator). They were involved in various activities with our students, including Japanese calligraphy, language games and surveys, and a treasure hunt. The Kanagawa Gakuen students also interacted with some Junior School classes to teach our students origami. At the Secondary School Assembly, the Kanagawa Gakuen students presented an informative video about their school and Yokohama, the city in which the school is located.

The Kanagawa Gakuen students particularly enjoyed the time they spent with their host families, who looked after the girls very well. On the weekend the students enjoyed many activities with their families including visiting Australia Zoo, Southbank, Lone Pine Sanctuary and some of our beautiful Queensland beaches. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the host families who opened their homes to the Kanagawa Gakuen students. Without your generosity, exchange programs such as these would not be possible.
