On Saturday 3 March, Ormiston College welcomed twenty Japanese students and two teachers from our Sister City School, Kanagawa Gakuen in Yokohama, Japan. Our visitors spent the weekend with their host families and on Monday morning there were many excited students recalling their weekend adventures!
During the week, Kanagawa students attended English classes and participated in activities in Japanese classes, sharing aspects of their language and culture. A real highlight for our visiting students was the Boomerang Art activity under the direction of Ms Julianne de Lange. A very special thank you to Ms de Lange, for sharing her knowledge and enthusiasm, gifting the students with a wonderful experience and a unique Australian souvenir of their visit to the College.
A formal farewell on Assembly and a luncheon, enjoyed with host-siblings, was a special way to bid a fond farewell to our guests.
Though the visit may have only lasted one week, the many shared experiences and memories will last for many years to come. It is opportunities such as these that extend students’ horizons, and exemplify the real connection between language learning at school and real-world applications.
