Remembrance Day Commemoration at the College

This year, the MOCCHA Club are knitting red poppies for a very special Remembrance Day commemoration that will include a sea of red poppies covering the Southern Courtyard with the words ‘Lest We Forget’.

The MOCCHA Club's goal is to create 7,000 poppies that will represent each fallen Australian soldier in the Battle of Pozieres.

All 7,000 of these handmade poppies will then be taken to Pozieres, France, on 23 July 2016 to be placed on plywood crosses as we pause to commemorate the 100 year anniversary of the start of the battle.

Reaching Our Goal

Our poppy tally has grown over the holidays - 4,491 petals are now finished. We have fully finished nearly 3,000 poppies, so we are busily finishing the centers of the rest. We will be coordinating with the College to have all students contribute to the laying of the poppies the day before so it will be a whole school effort to create the finished Remembrance Day Poppy commemoration.

Well done and thanks again to our many knitters – staff, mums, aunts and grandmothers who have been busily knitting. Keep them coming as we are hoping to continue on towards the 7,000 target.

If you have any knitted poppies that are finished, it would be great if you could bring them in so we can finish them off.

Commemorate at Ormiston

Remembrance Day is 11 November and only 32 days away.

Mark your diaries and join the MOCCHA Club for a morning tea on Wednesday 11 November at 9am in the Sports Pavilion, followed by a Remembrance Day Ceremony in the Southern Courtyard starting at 10.40am.

We extend a special invitation to all our poppy knitters to thank them for their help and they are welcome to bring family/friends to share the event. The OC community are all welcome to be a part of the Remembrance Day commemoration. RSVP’s are preferred to assist with catering and seating requirements.
