Term 4 has been very busy for Hearts & Hands students and volunteers.
After collecting dockets in the Coles Sports for Schools, we were able to donate some sporting equipment to the Cleveland Scout Group; assisting them in their rebuild after a tragic fire earlier in the year. The equipment, which includes a full cricket set, tennis balls, ring toss and various other sports sets, can be used by the scouts in group activities and camps for years to come.
We also had our annual McHappy Day on 17th November, volunteering our service at the Cleveland McDonald’s store. Students raised funds for Ronald McDonald House charities through their collections in donation buckets, as well as selling raffle tickets, and collecting donations in the drive through. The students also treated children to free gifts and hosted games.
It was also great to see many OC staff and families support the cause, coming in for lunch on the day. I am eagerly awaiting the final tally for RMHC.
After a big cook up at the end of Term 3, our Food Bank has been used to support families in the OC community as well this term.
Looking to 2019, there will be some community groups that we will continue to support on a permanent basis – as well as continue to serve and volunteer in new initiatives each year. The knitting campaign completed in Term 2 was so successful that we will knit on a regular basis for the Redlands Hospital paediatrics Preemie Baby wards. If you are interested in sewing or knitting for the Preemie Babies, email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information. All support is greatly appreciated.
Hearts & Hands would like to thank all the families, staff and students who have donated, volunteered and served the Ormiston College and wider Redlands communities through the 2018 year and hope that you enjoy a well-earned break over the festive season.
