Inspired by 'Elmer’s Walk', a book about the celebration of mindfulness by David McKee, the ELC children set out into the College campus (in their brightest party attire) to experience their own 'Elmer's Walk'.
The Educators encouraged the children to take their time on their walk to appreciate the natural surroundings, observe buildings, local features, creatures, plants, and natural objects. When the children arrived at the CLI they were surprised and excited to see the interactive floor had changed to a large Elmer display with a giant birthday greeting. They enjoyed walking on the brightly coloured display and watching the movement of the colourful pictures. Thank you for Mr Askin for designing this floor for our youngest learners to experience.
Back at the ELC, the children were encouraged to respond to their observations creatively. The Educators discussed with the children what they saw, heard and experienced and the PP2 children extended on their love of book making by printing their pictures from the walk and creating captions for them. The children baked cakes for Elmer, collaged baby Elmer’s and participated in an Elmer themed treasure hunt.
