To support the Year 7 and 8 Literacy program, during Term 3 the college introduced WordFlyers. WordFlyers is a successful and innovative digital resource dedicated to strengthening the literacy skills of Year 7 to 10 students in grammar, reading, comprehension, punctuation, vocabulary and writing. Set within the theme of world travel, WordFlyers is an engaging, relevant and rigorous resource for the modern teenager.
Through encouraging students to read a variety of texts and sharing repeated readings of those texts, the college aims to strengthen our culture of reading and our love of literacy throughout the Middle School. As students explore these texts over a fortnightly basis, they engage in explicit learning experiences in spelling, grammar and punctuation and use WordFlyers to consolidate their understanding through tutorials and practice sets.
Students in the Middle School were enjoying the program so much they decided to register for the Race Around the World Challenge. With the extra incentive of the competition and possible prizes to be won, students embraced their literacy learning even more and got online.
Congratulations to Year 7 students Flynn, Nicholas and Cody and Year 8 student Akash for placing within the Top 10 students.
